About Me

Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Okay, sup? How you doing? Good! But you're probably here to know about me. I'm Sophie and I'm 15, grade 9, Asian, bla bla bla. I like a lot of stuff! Like books, music, MOVIES (if you want to know which ones, just go down to the bottom)! I want to be a director when I grow up, sooooo fun!! And I've got lots of friends, well, not lots, but a fair bit. People call me hard-working, or just a nerd. I am a nerd, a hard-core nerd, you got a problem with that? Good. I'm also just hard-core, I mean, I've got people's backs, I fight for what I believe in, I say what's on my mind, I don't sway with the crowd. Yeah, anything else? If you have any more questions (Which you probably don't, because you probably know me in real life, and you'll know that Sophie Tribiani doesn't exit, at least I hope I didn't steal someone else's name o.O....) Just read some of my posts, I've got lots!

Weekend

I feel like my weekend just flew by. I wish that time can slow down or even just stop for a little. Like, you know, let one day be different from another, but just not ever let it get somewhere, you know? Just like different things happen, but the dates repeat themselves, and we don't age. I know there'll be a lot of consequences to this, and I don't want it to really happen, but I'd just wish things can slow down a little so I can enjoy it before it runs away and be done with. It's depressing to think about that kind of stuff though. And also what really is wasting time? Isn't enjoying yourself having fun? But isn't having fun a waste of time? So what should we do with our lives? I sort of want to know all the answers to these questions, yet I don't. I don't want to risk the feeling of surprise or joy to know what anwers lay ahead for these questions. I guess I'm just sad that the Olympics is over. It flew by so fast, I wish it could just stay for a little longer or something like that. I know we should enjoy life, but it'll just make us sad when it's over, even if we're satisfied with what we have done, it's still sad to end. I'm getting depressed now...

It seemed worth repeating" Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

Well, that cheered me up a little. But now Neil Young on the Closing Ceremonies is bringing my spirit down again, darn it!

...

I don't really know what to talk about today. I really just don't. I'm watching the Olympics right now and it's awesome and everything, but nothing's really getting my interest. I read a lot today, which reminds me that I need to get a move on with my books. I'm reading The Blood Stone right now, which is pretty good, then I have to read the Awakening, which I actually want to read now, and the second book of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series I borrowed from my friend yesterday. So, yeah, that's a summary of what I'm reading, which I'm sure is less interesting than what your doing right now. Then again, you are reading my blog...

New Picture

Sooo, did you see the new picture??

Any way, I heard about DLG wanting people to help with the carnival, and I think it's actually really funny. As you know, I used to go to DLG, and daycare, which is the real source of the carnival. I've worked at the carnival for... 5 years? Yeah, 5 years! And last year, it held on for three days and I worked every single hour that it was opened. We had anchors, as in like people that our boss, Barb, counts on the most. I'm one of them, and I worked at the prize table, which is so busy at the end when every one comes to get their prizes, and it's just great to work like that and know that you are needed so much. Plus, I got to boss around a bunch of grade tens. Last year I helped get the people that helped with the carnival, and now people are asking me to help with it, so it's like I've given my place to someone else, which I'm actually really sad about because originally I miss my old life and friends and world and now it's like I've really been kicked out. :(

That's what my new picture says, isn't it great?? LOLZ!

No Homework

Yay, except for a little studying, I don't have any homework today. Yay!! I also now can remember almost all the notes in the three brochures for the religion project, we are done our project ourselves, and I can remember every single poem that Ms. Greskiw gave us, so I'm officially done everything!!

Okay, so remember that long, complicated trilogy I thought of and gave you a very horrible insight to? Well, if you don't, too bad. Anyway, I was originally going to start it at summer, but with time to myself on Sunday, when both my parents are at work, I can actually start it this weekend. I'm very excited, but also a little overwelmed, for I planned to write two other books before this one. But if I don't start on this one, either I'll loose interest in it or my friends will and no one will read it, so I have to start it now. I seriously need to write my ideas down and plan them out, or else it'll forever be like this: I've got Saving Our Ships (a short novel about seven sinking ships) I want to start, Indemnity (about kidnapping of a little boy), Something about the Odyssey (Modern day look at the Odyssey), It's Not Me (short novel about a boyish girl in upper class 1800s), and a bunch of short stories and poems. Plus, I really need to edit Life Under The Stars (about a homeless boy in the French Revolution). Uh!! I think this is the first time I have actually written all my ideas out, which shows you how badly I plan when it comes to writing...

Quote of the day:

I'm really hoping right now that that's not his real name.

Oh, just to put it out there, I changed my picture, see if you can read it.

Field Trip done

Today was so fun!! We should totally do it again. Just kidding, I don't think we can do it again. But seriously, it was fun!! So any way, I had a really good time with Vivian as my partner. We went to so any places just within the area that we were generally in. I mean, we explored a lot with the others at Lonsdale Quay and the Airport, but we saw a show and ran around the public market at Granville Island. Plus, we went to the Francophonie place, and it was boring, but we still got to see a show, which was good. I just had a great time.

Right, and what's your new movie again, oh yes, you and Ewan McGregor are lovers, huh...

Field Trip Tomorrow

Yeah, we have a field trip tomorrow, and I just can't wait. There's just one problem, I'm supposed to have library dutty tomorrow morning, and I don't think I can go, since we have to meet at the skytrain station at 8:30 and all. I'm just a little worried, since this is my second time on this task, and I don't want to appear like I just didn't want to go or something. I was actually wondering if I can get one of those little orange slips for this. Oh well, I'll figure it out, I should of talked to Ms McKinlay, but it just slipped my mind, I'm so irresponsible!!

Extensions and Reflections

Extensions Lesson 20

Win-Win Agreement Form

Date: Feb 22/10
Project/task: To get help with math in a long term.
Party 1: Me
Party 2: Friend

1. What are the desired results?
My friend gets help in Math in a long term from me and I get to borrow three of her books.

2. What are the available resources?
My knowledge for math and her books.

3. What are the guidelines?
I tutor her for 3 weeks and I get to borrow three of her books, any ones I want and at any time.

4. How will progress be seen? accountability?
See if she gets a better understanding of math and see how her grades are after the three weeks.

5. What are the consequences/ benefits if completed or not?
If completed, she gets better math understanding and grades, and I get to borrow books that I haven't read. If it's not accomplished, then we just wasted our time.

Reflections

Are there any situations at home that could benefit or be guided more clearly by drawing up a win-win agreement?
Well, we can change some chores and actually assign one person to do a certain thing, I think that'll give a little more order in the house. Also, maybe if we help one another, we can get something back. Like saying if my mom needs help with her English, then she can do tonights dishes, that kind of thing. I can't think of any specific thing right now, but I'm sure it'll come around.

My usual blog:

Okay, so today nothing much happened, very balanced day. Oh, got the pictures taken for year book of the library monitors, I hope I don't look too guffy. Also, I have to finish the Lightning Thief today! I've been very late on that, and I need to finish and start the second book, cause one of my friends really wants me to read the series, and I really want to too, so I have got to get a move on!!

Followers

Just got one more follower, which is great. And since I want more, I've decided to send every one of my contacts an invitation to follow this blog!! Isn't that great??

Okay, so today I finally finished the brochure for the religion project. We originally were supposed to present on Wednesday, but we have the field trip, which pushed us to Friday, so we're making good time.

Obsessed with fan sites that are set up for The Mortal Instruments! They're all awesome, and some people I couldn't agree with more!

Canada Pavilion

I officially hate Pavilions! I stood in line for at least two hours just to get inside, then waited another hour to get into the real pavilion, and it wasn't worth it at all! Practically nothing was inside. No, there was old skies and skates used by athletes, and a Gretzky jersey that I would have so say wasn't as satisfying as you would think. Oh, there was the Stanley Cup, but really, I'm not much of a hockey fan, and I frankly didn't want to wait another hour just for a picture. Plus, on the Skytrain there, I had to stand to a very nasty guy with dandruff and greasy hair and eating a bag of really badly smelling potato chips. It was so crowded that there was absolutely no wiggle room, and it was just horrible to stand beside that guy. Plus, he was really mean too, and just a weird guy. It was just horrible!!

Old World

Today I went back to my old school and saw some old friends, and it provoked me to remember how it all used to be. I guess you could say that I left that world and the people in it behind, and it was just great to catch up with my friends that went to Ideal, and it reminded me of how much I missed them. I wish they could come to Churchill, now my only hope for them to come to our school is for them to want to come to IB, otherwise, they'll stay at that school forever, which makes me a little sad to think about. I guess I just really miss them.

Good song, it's stuck in my head all the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZweDwbJ_Ic It's called Howl by Florence and the Machine. Oh, this one too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KxKgLnlpR8 It's Find a Way by Safetysuit, except I can't download the second song, I can't find it, which is such a shame because I like it sooo much. Plus, I really like Only Ashes, but I can't get that one either!!

Hakuna Matata

Hakuna Matata means no worries, and I just love the phrase. It's quite fun to say actually. Hakuna, Matata, Hakuna, Matata... I learned this wonderful phrase from the movie the Lion King, which I liked as a child and still really enjoy watching. It's a great movie, and teaches you morals! Today Angel was reading the 7 Habits of Effective Teens, and she saw this quote, and I can't believe that she hasn't seen Lion King, or even heard of this song, it's so great! Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejEVczA8PLU , check it out!

So, new names for chapters of the book I'm waiting to come out! It comes out in March 2011, a long time, I know, but it's part of the Mortal Instruments series, and I'm willing to wait as long as I can for it!!

SunRun

I just signed up for the SunRun, and I can't wait. I know it's in May, but I feel like it'll be upon us before we know it. So I have done the SunRun before with our old daycare, but we weren't really registered, so we didn't get the T-shirts, but it was really fun! We took two hours, though, and only ran the first kilometer, then walked the rest of the way. Still, I'm glad to do it again.

Extensions and Reflections

Extensions Lesson 19
There is no extensions for this lesson.

Reflections Lesson 19

How can you help each other continue to think and practice win-win?
If we think and practice win-win, then every one will win. Every one will be able to get what they want and yet no one will be left behind. I think it's the greatest way to do things, but sometimes you just can't get a win-win situation, so I think when you do, you should be thankful. I also think that people today don't think about being thankful when you do have win-win situations, but maybe that can change, or maybe I'm wrong in the first place.

My usual blog:
So, today we had the math contest, and it was so hard!! The first page or so is nice and fun, and easy, but as it evolved, it got worse and worse until I had no idea what it was trying to ask! I hope I didn't get that bad of a score, but I guess it doesn't matter that much because getting into Enriched Math 9 is more on the teacher's recommendation and your usual behaviour in the classroom, and I think the teacher likes me and I do contribute in the classroom.

Also, Tiffany and I had a long talk about the Mortal Instruments series and the next book coming out on March of 2011, and it was so fun. We have the same perspectives for the book and yet it's still interesting because we like different characters. Any way, it was just really great to talk to someone who loves the book as much as I do, because back in Elementry, I couldn't find any one like that.

Okay, so Percy Jackson was SOOOO good!!! It was absolutely wonderful, shorter than the book, but much better! It was so awesome, I couldn't even find words to express it. Lets just say that crazily awesome is under stating it. And the actors are great for their roles. Plus it was really funny and it does a good job of mixing the ancient world with our world.

Shutter Island, huh? Leonardo DiCaprio's new movie looks scary!! I want to see it, but I'm also a little hesitant, it really is scary.

MOVIE

Can't wait, I'm going to watch Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Lightning Thief with Jamie and Laurie and Edward and a bunch of other people in two hours, and I can barely sit down!! I can't wait, I loved the trailer so much and now I just really want to watch the movie! I watched Avatar with my dad on Friday, so I feel a little guilty watching two movies on one weekend, but I can't let guilt get in my way.

Oh, hey, I wrote some book reviews on google books today, so if any one wants to check that out, please do. I have done ones for:

City of Bones
City of Ashes
City of Glass
The Red Necklace
The Silver Blade
The Roman Mysteries Omnibus
The Book Thief
The Uglies Trilogy

Feedback of any kind will be great! I want to sound professional.

Follower

I just saw that someone new is following me on my blog, and they've got a pretty freaky picture. So I sent a email asking that person was. Now I await an answer.

Just went on google maps and searched up my address for Edward so he knows where to find me tomorrow to go to the movie. Wow, there was a picture, and you could turn that picture 360 degrees, how did they take that photo?? So cool!

Well, going to the movie tomorrow with like 10 other people. So excited!! Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief looks sooooo good, I can't wait. But I just noticed that we have to get the two zone ticket, which bumbs me out a little cause it costs so much. How dare those translink guys, asking for fare from a poor student. Oh, well, what ever. I remember back in the old days us kids were didn't have to add $1.25 when we went to other zones, those were the good days. Now everything is pricey, even toilet paper, and that's a fact.

Olympic Pavilians

Today I ran around Downtown and other places with my mom and we went to the pavilians of all the countries. Well, we only went to one that was actually a country and it was Germany. We had to wait like 40 minutes in line and when we got in, it was just like a place to hang out and watch the Olympics, and I was expecting some kind of exibit or something, so I was very disappointed. But we did go to the Ontario and Quebec pavilians, and we got free stuff, but that was it. I think the best one was when we went to the Concord Pacific and we saw all the future architectual projects that they were planning for Downtown, that was cool. Oh, and we also went on the Olympic Line, that was fun.

Weekend packed full

Sooo today I went to watch Avatar in IMAX 3D, and it was really good. The movie was better than I thought it would be, since I started to convince myself of its horribleness after it beat Titanic as the highest grossing movie of all time. I have to admit, it was great, and how can you not like a James Cameron film??

First day of the Olympics, and I am currently watching the opening ceremonies, this is not a moment to forget, the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and this is rememberence and proof that I am watching it at this moment, a once in a lifetime chance.

Happy Chinese New Year, and it'll be Valentines day on Sunday, wow, it's a packed weekend.

Internet Explorer 8

Okay, so I just got the Internet Explorer 8 because I saw Youtube tell me that it won't work soon if I don't change it, and I can't live without Google or Youtube, so I updated it. It looks a little different but otherwise is about the same as the old version. Cool, huh? No, probably not because half of the world has already gotten it, and the other half don't have computers.

So, check out Bo Burnham on Youtube, he's a song writer, and his songs are pretty funny. There's some bad parts in there, so if you don't like those, then just watch Welcome to Youtube.

Science fair

Okay, so this is the last night that any of us have to finish our Science fair projects, and it looks like a lot of people are still panicking. Not that I'm concerned, I finished mine last week, all the panicking already happened for me. I, though, had more time to work on it if anything went wrong, they, however, don't have that time. I know it's really mean, but I'm actually having some fun watching half the class freak out, it's like every one's butt is on the line and yours is far from it, you're just at the bleachers, watching the game.

So, we had a Code Red today, and I can't really make out what I have to say about it. Mr Dykstra, our PE teacher that we had the drill with, told us about the beginning of the Lockdown and what caused them to have a Code Red. It was the Colombine shooting in 1999. I actually saw a documentary about that, and if I remember correctly, they harmed over 40 people, and that's a lot actually. Any way, it was really freaky and the scene that I remember the most is the two people with guns went into the library, where everyone was under the tables, and they just bend down to look under every table and say "Peek-a-boo" and shoot, and it was so scary, as if they had no conscience. I also remember a teacher out in the hall and he was shot and two other students were trying to keep him awake by getting him to talk, like asking about his family and stuff like that. I actually started a short story on that, but I didn't get around to finishing it.

Divine Creator

Today Angel and I went into a very interesting conversation about all the deep and meaningful stuff, like why we are here in life, or who created us all. Since she's Christian, she believes in God. I believe that there's some kind of great force that made us what we are, but I don't exactly believe it to be a person or a thing that actually has a mind of its own. Like I love the Big Bang theory, but what troubles me is that what was before that, what caused the Big Bang, and so on and so forth. There's so many theories about the beginning of time itself, and I just want to know what was it like before that? Was it all white, was it all black, was there something else like us humans back then, was there really a big purple elephant (I would want to believe so), and if there was a purple elephant, who was its mother, or who created it, and who created it, and who created it... I'm curious on what was before the start.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

THe new movie called Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief looks really good and I really want to see it, so I got the audio version of the book. It was originally a book by Rick Riordan about this boy named Percy Jackson who turned out to be Posiedon's son, a demi-god. It's about his adventures with the Olympians and other demi-gods, I think. In the first book, Zues' lightning bolt goes missing, and he has to find it. And there's something about a pen and he later clicks it and it was a sword, and thing with the elevator at the Empire State building, or at least I think it's the Empire State building, and a creeky teacher who turns into a bird. And I got all of that from a trailer, since I haven't read the book yet. But I am starting at this moment, right now, yes.

Poem

I'm usually not a poet, bu8t today I wrote something for the New Shoots for Literature club. New Shoots is a UBC magazine kind of thing, and we can submit five from our school, or the Literature club, so I made one. It was actually quite enjoyable. I was actually going for the scary feeling, but I don't think I did very well on it. So here you go, enjoy!

The game

The lightning cracked through the night,
And I am glad that I’m inside,
Looking around frantically,
I found a place to hide.
I hear footsteps, haunting footsteps
from the laundry room,
Like spiders, little spiders
Climbing out of the loom.
Voices, noises, very calm
Like howls of the hounds
I make a fist and bite my lips,
Trying not to make a sound.
And then, just then, a hand perch up,
Nearly giving me a fit,
It clawed and clawed at my shoulder,
And it said, “You’re it.”

Projects and Studies

So today I got some very good work done on both the religion project and my science fair poster and abstract. I am officially done all science fair stuff, yay!!! Any way, I finished my part of the religion project too. Now all that is left of that is to get the effects of the slides together, which is Evan's job, and the brochure, which is Winnie's job, and to get the presentation together, which will happen after everything's done. We're actually making pretty good time, the project for us isn't due until the 24th...wait, but we're going on the field trip around Vancouver that day, which means Mr. Sale will have to push back the date even more!! Oh wow, we're soo lucky!! I've still got some studying to do, but I've been doing my best for that, and I've got to get my costume for the God project ready. But for that I don't have to do a lot, I was a Greek princess two years ago for Halloween, so that costume came in real handy. But that's all I have to do, so yay me!

Quote of the day:

Actually, yeah, I find that I think better when I'm doing something, like tapping the table.

Oh, does any one know about the train from Europe that's running from Granville Island to Downtown? Does any one know how to ride on it, is it free, or where I can find information about it?

Korean songs

Today some of my friends were listening to Korean songs and made me listen to some too. I actually like some of them, they're quite catchy. They're all better than the ones I've heard before. I think that's why I was so hesitant to try it, because I got a really bad impression from the first ones I've heard, so yeah.

I've got much stuff to do this weekend! I've got so many things to study and so many projects, and if you don't believe me, see my updated homework list at the side of the page!

BAD MARK

Today, we had a pop quiz in French, and I got yet another wrong on it. I'm so scared that I'm going to get a B in the course, like before, I got all perfect, and I got an A, but Angel, I didn't think she got that bad of a mark, and she got a B. I hope I don't get a B, I'm really working hard, like really hard. But the pop quizzes are just getting me at the wrong times. Like, I was really busy with Science fair before, but now I'm going to study everyday, I just hope it's not too late. I'm so frustrated, I feel like crying. I love french, and I don't want to get a bad mark, and if you know me at all, you would know that B is a horrible mark for me.

5. Jeremy sees Sonny is close to putting the final touches on his rebuilt carburetor in shop class. A minute later, Jeremy finds himself "accidentally pushed" into Sonny's work station. After apologizing and helping Sonny pick up the pieces, Jeremy goes back to his near-finished project.
Jeremy: Lose Sonny: Lose

Reflection
Choose one relationship in your immediate (sister, mother, etc..) or extended (uncle, cousin, etc..) family and identify the attitude of interaction under which you operate.
I guess both my parents schedule around me as best as they can, and I always, or most of the times, gets what I want, even though I don't think so sometimes. So I guess it's a win for me ad a lose for them. But I really wish I can work around their schedule too, all they have to do is tell me when it isn't a good time and I'll just go alone or not go at all. In fact, I haven't seen my friends from Ideal and UBC in a very long time, and for more than many times it was because of my parents and their schedule. So you can say it's a win-win and a lose-lose.

Today is like homework nightmare day! First, when I just got home, I did my English, which was not bad. But once I got to my religion project, everything plummitted. I couldn't get a number for a Voodoo priest for a very long time, and when I finally got one, he didn't give me a lot of information. Then when I moved onto science, I noticed that our chart was all wrong and everything got screwed up, and yet I printed two copies anyway!! UH!!

Olympics Traffic

Okay, so signs saying "No parking" and stuff like that are slowly appearing here and there around the area that I live at, or any area for that matter. I'm slowly seeing them everywhere. See, this is why I don't like the Olympics in the city that I live in, it just causes limitations on everyday things. Plus, I think it's just a huge waste of money that a lot of the countries who host them just don't have. I know Vancouver can afford this, but somehow the Olympics here is just giving me this, cheesy kind of feeling. Like Vancouver can do it and stuff like that. I mean, I just don't know why I feel like that. Well, whatever. Oh, no, not whatever, with so much limitations, there'll definitely be roads that are close, now I just need to know where to find the information for it, like a website or something.

Reflections
Your family is a priority! Break open your schedules as a family and plan some quality time together.
That's funny, because we've already done that a long time ago. We think one of the most important things in life is time with the family, and we've tried our hardest to establish that. But sometimes it really is just as simple as sitting down for dinner or watching a movie together. We've always tried to do that instead of a huge thing every week, and just little times. Plus, besides work and school, we don't really have other plans.

My usual Blog: I started reading a lot of the fan fictions about the Mortal Instruments, and there's some real talents out there and some really mean people. Like some of the stories really make a lot of sense and it's great and I was actually sad to finish it, but some just makes no sense and are horrible! Maybe I should write some of my own, I mean I've got ideas.

I don't know why I chose this quote, but I just like it.
